archipel - édition 2026

archipel est un rendez-vous annuel proposé par Contretype en soutien à la photographie émergente en Belgique, dans toute sa diversité et ses possibles, et aux nouvelles générations d’artistes de l’image. Pour la 3ème édition d’archipel, en 2026, un jury de professionnel.le.s invitera 6 artistes à exposer à Contretype du 23 avril au 5 juillet.

archipel devient un réseau

Au-delà d’une exposition, archipel évolue pour devenir un réseau professionnel. Six partenaires s’associent au projet. Ielles sont membres du jury et s’engagent chacun.e à accompagner un.e des lauréat.e.s dans une session de travail, après l’exposition, selon des modalités à définir : résidence, mentorat, suivi de projet, accompagnement éditorial, exposition, mise en réseau….

Les 6 partenaires professionnel.le.s sont :

  • archipel est une scène pour la photographie émergente dans son sens le plus ouvert. L’appel à candidatures s’adresse à des artistes dont la démarche prospective explore l’image dans toutes ses dimensions, qu’elle soit expérimentale, documentaire, plastique, performative ou en dialogue avec d’autres langages (vidéo, installation, édition, arts sonores, pratiques numériques, etc.). archipel est attentif aux propositions qui interrogent la définition de l’image, sa matérialité et ses usages, qui questionnent les enjeux de la représentation au regard du monde actuel et qui ouvrent de nouveaux territoires visuels. Sans exclure les approches plus classiques, archipel souhaite encourager l’émergence de pratiques audacieuses et inventives, de démarches singulières portées par une vision personnelle et affirmée.

    • Plus qu’une exposition collective, archipel est une présentation de 6 démarches artistiques, sans thématique particulière, chacune ayant son espace propre

    • À chaque projet sélectionné est affecté un budget de production plafonné à 1.000 € HTVA. Les frais sont directement réglés par Contretype, sur factures uniquement. Les œuvres produites restent la propriété des artistes.

    • Les 6 artistes sélectionné.e.s perçoivent chacun.e des droits d’auteur d’un montant forfaitaire de 400 € HTVA.

    • À l’issue de la manifestation, chaque lauréat.e se verra proposé un accompagnement artistique par un des membres du jury, dont les modalités (forme, durée, budget…) seront décidées en commun accord.

    • Être un.e artiste photographe actif.ve dans le champ de l’image

    • Être en lien avec la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale ou la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles

    • Être âgé.e de 40 ans au maximum au 1 janvier 2026

    • Être diplômé.e d’une école d’art ou de photographie au 1 janvier 2026. En l’absence d’études artistiques, attester d’une pratique artistique confirmée

    • Ne pas avoir exposé à Contretype depuis au moins 4 années (2022 au plus tard)

    • Ne pas avoir déjà exposé le projet proposé, à Bruxelles ou en région de Bruxelles-Capitale

    • Réserver l’exclusivité du projet à Contretype pendant toute la durée d’archipel

    • Être en mesure de produire des factures

    • Adresser un dossier de candidature comprenant

      • un portfolio et un texte de présentation de la démarche artistique générale (images légendées, 15 images maxi)

      • un curriculum-vitae (ou texte biographique)

      • une présentation d’un projet spécifique proposé pour archipel (texte + visuels) (préciser si les oeuvres sont déjà produites ou à produire).

    • Le dossier doit être réalisé au format PDF uniquement

    • Le dossier doit être composé d’un seul fichier pdf

    • Le fichier doit être nommé sur le modèle NOM_PRENOM_archipel2026

    • Le dossier doit être téléchargé via le site internet de Contretype

    • Les dossiers qui ne respectent pas les conditions ne seront pas traités en raison du nombre de candidatures reçues.

    • Les artistes se porteront garant.e.s de l’observance de la loi sur le respect de la vie  privée.

    • Aucune candidature en contradiction avec la législation anti-racisme et anti-discrimination ne pourra être acceptée.

    • Les artistes devront être titulaires de tous les droits relatifs au contenu de leurs œuvres (textes, images, graphisme). 

    • Les lauréat.e.s s’engageront à céder gratuitement leurs droits de reproduction à Contretype aux fins de promotion de la manifestation.

    • Les lauréat.e.s s’engageront à être présent.e.s à Contretype pendant l’exposition à l’occasion de temps de rencontres avec les publics

archipel - 2026 edition

archipel is an annual event initiated by Contretype in support of emerging photography in Belgium, in all its diversity and possibilities, and of new generations of image-based artists. For the 3rd edition of archipel in 2026, a jury of professionals will invite 6 artists to exhibit at Contretype from April 23 to July 5.

archipel becomes a network

Beyond an exhibition, archipel is evolving into a professional network. Six partners are joining the project. They are members of the jury and each commit to supporting one of the laureates in a working session after the exhibition, in a format to be defined: residency, mentorship, project follow-up, editorial support, exhibition, networking, etc.

The 6 professional partners are :

  • archipel is a platform for emerging photography in its broadest sense. The call for applications is aimed at artists whose forward-looking practice explores the image in all its dimensions, whether experimental, documentary, plastic, performative, or in dialogue with other disciplines (video, installation, publishing, sound arts, digital practices, etc.). archipel is attentive to proposals that interrogate the very definition of the image, its materiality and its uses, that question the issues of representation in relation to today’s world, and that open up new visual territories. Without excluding more classical approaches, archipel seeks to encourage the emergence of bold and inventive practices, singular approaches carried by a personal and affirmed vision.

    • More than a group exhibition, archipel is a presentation of 6 artistic approaches, without a specific theme, each having its own space.

    • Each selected project will receive a production budget capped at €1,000 (excl. VAT). Expenses are paid directly by Contretype, on the basis of invoices only. The works produced remain the property of the artists.

    • The 6 selected artists will each receive copyright fees of a flat amount of €400 (excl. VAT).

    • At the end of the event, each laureate will be offered artistic support by one of the jury members, the terms (form, duration, budget…) being decided by mutual agreement.

    • Be a photographic artist active in the field of image-making.

    • Have a link with the Brussels-Capital Region or the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

    • Be 40 years old or younger on January 1, 2026.

    • Hold a degree from an art or photography school by January 1, 2026. In the absence of formal studies, attest to a confirmed artistic practice.

    • Not have exhibited at Contretype for at least 4 years (2022 at the latest).

    • Not have already exhibited the proposed project, in Brussels or the Brussels-Capital Region.

    • Reserve exclusivity of the project for Contretype throughout the duration of archipel.

    • Be able to issue invoices.

    • The application must include :

      • A portfolio and a presentation text of the general artistic approach (captioned images, max. 15 images).

      • A curriculum vitae (or biographical text)

      • A presentation of a specific project proposed for archipel (text+visuals) (please specify whether the wors are already produced or to be produced)

    • The application must be submitted in PDF format only.

    • The application must be a single PDF file.

    • The file must be named according to the model LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_archipel2026

    • The application must be uploaded via Contretype’s website.

    • Applications that do not meet the requirements will not be processed due to the number of applications received.

    • Deadline for receipt of applications: Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at midnight.

    • Jury meeting and announcement of selection: early November 2025.

    • Delivery of works to Contretype: Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 April 2026.
      Opening: Thursday 23 April 2026.

    • Exhibition dates: Thursday 23 April – Sunday 5 July 2026.

    • The artists guarantee compliance with privacy laws.

    • No application in contradiction with anti-racism and anti-discrimination legislation will be accepted.

    • Artists must hold all rights relating to the content of their works (texts, images, graphics).

    • The laureates undertake to grant Contretype free reproduction rights for the purpose of promoting the event.

    • The laureates undertake to be present at Contretype during the exhibition for public engagement activities.

archipel - 2026 editie

archipel is een jaarlijks initiatief van Contretype ter ondersteuning van de opkomende fotografie in België, in al haar diversiteit en mogelijkheden, en van de nieuwe generaties beeldende kunstenaars. Voor de 3e editie van archipel in 2026 zal een jury van professionals 6 kunstenaars uitnodigen om te exposeren bij Contretype van 23 april tot 5 juli.

archipel wordt een netwerk

Meer dan een tentoonstelling, evolueert archipel naar een professioneel netwerk. Zes partners sluiten zich aan bij het project. Zij maken deel uit van de jury en verbinden zich ertoe elk één laureaat te begeleiden in een werkperiode na de tentoonstelling, volgens nader te bepalen modaliteiten: residentie, mentorschap, projectopvolging, redactionele ondersteuning, tentoonstelling, netwerking, enz.

De 6 professionele partners zijn :

  • archipel is een platform voor opkomende fotografie in de ruimste betekenis. De oproep richt zich tot kunstenaars van wie de vooruitstrevende praktijk het beeld in al zijn dimensies onderzoekt, of het nu experimenteel, documentair, plastisch, performatief is, of in dialoog met andere disciplines (video, installatie, publicatie, geluidskunst, digitale praktijken, enz.). archipel besteedt bijzondere aandacht aan voorstellen die de definitie van het beeld, de materialiteit en het gebruik ervan bevragen, die de kwesties van representatie in relatie tot de huidige wereld problematiseren, en die nieuwe visuele territoria openen. Zonder de meer klassieke benaderingen uit te sluiten, wil archipel de opkomst van gedurfde en inventieve praktijken stimuleren, van unieke benaderingen die worden gedragen door een persoonlijke en uitgesproken visie.

    • Meer dan een groepstentoonstelling is archipel een presentatie van 6 artistieke trajecten, zonder specifiek thema, elk in een eigen ruimte.

    • Elk geselecteerd project krijgt een productiebudget met een maximum van €1.000 excl. btw.

    • De kosten worden rechtstreeks door Contretype betaald, uitsluitend op basis van facturen.

    • De geproduceerde werken blijven eigendom van de kunstenaars.
      De 6 geselecteerde kunstenaars ontvangen elk een auteursrechtvergoeding van €400 excl. btw.

    • Na afloop van het evenement wordt elke laureaat een artistieke begeleiding aangeboden door een van de juryleden, waarvan de modaliteiten (vorm, duur, budget…) in onderling overleg worden bepaald.

    • Actief zijn als fotografisch kunstenaar binnen het beeldend veld.

    • Een band hebben met het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest of de Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

    • Maximum 40 jaar oud zijn op 1 januari 2026.

    • Een diploma behaald hebben aan een kunst- of fotografieschool vóór 1 januari 2026. Bij gebrek aan een artistieke opleiding, een aantoonbare artistieke praktijk kunnen voorleggen.

    • Minstens 4 jaar niet bij Contretype hebben geëxposeerd (2022 ten laatste).

    • Het voorgestelde project nog niet eerder hebben geëxposeerd in Brussel of het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest.

    • Exclusiviteit van het project voor Contretype behouden tijdens de hele duur van archipel.

    • In staat zijn om facturen uit te reiken.

    • Een kandidatuurdossier moet bevatten:

      • Een portfolio en een presentatie van de algemene artistieke aanpak (met onderschriften, max. 15 beelden).

      • Een curriculum vitae (of biografische tekst).

      • Een presentatie van een specifiek project dat wordt voorgesteld voor archipel (tekst + beelden) (preciseer of de werken reeds geproduceerd zijn of nog moeten worden gerealiseerd).

    • Het dossier moet uitsluitend in pdf-formaat worden ingediend.

    • Het dossier moet uit één enkel pdf-bestand bestaan.

    • Het dossier moet worden benoemd volgens het model NAAM_VOORNAAM_archipel2026

    • Het dossier moet via de website van Contretype worden geüpload.

    • Dossiers die niet aan de voorwaarden voldoen, zullen niet worden behandeld wegens het aantal ontvangen kandidaturen.

    • De kunstenaars garanderen de naleving van de wet op de bescherming van de persoonlijke levenssfeer.

    • Geen enkele kandidatuur die in strijd is met de antiracisme- en antidiscriminatiewetgeving zal worden aanvaard.

    • De kunstenaars moeten houder zijn van alle rechten met betrekking tot de inhoud van hun werken (teksten, beelden, grafisch werk).

    • De laureaten verbinden zich ertoe Contretype gratis reproductierechten toe te kennen met het oog op de promotie van het evenement.

    • De laureaten verbinden zich ertoe aanwezig te zijn bij Contretype tijdens de tentoonstelling, bij ontmoetingen met het publiek.
