In line with the questions surrounding the photographic medium that have been central to his work for several years, Max Pinckers explores the fundamental tension between two primary formats for presenting and sharing images: the book and the exhibition. Where the book offers an intimate experience defined by a personal temporal rhythm and a tactile connection to the image, the exhibition unfolds the photographs into a three-dimensional space, spatializing the narrative and fostering a collective experience. The Leeskamer project takes the book as a starting point to explore the transition from the printed page to the physical space and installation. It examines the spatial layout of three photographic series that, until now, had only been distributed as publications: The Future Without You, State of Emergency, and Colour Theory. By shifting traditional photographic display methods, Leeskamer invites visitors to experience new modes of perception and reimagine their relationship with the image.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, he won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award in 2018 and the Leica Hall of Fame Award for his innovative approach to documentary photography. He regularly self-publishes his work and teaches fine art photography at KASK in Ghent.
