Organic image making and recuperation
2 days workshop - led in English

Organic materials have been used to develop photographic film throughout history. From the early discovery of anthotypes—created by emulsifying light-sensitive plant powders—to the invention of collodion dry plates, Nick Verhaeghe has long been inspired to look deeper into the world around him to enhance his photographic practice.

In this workshop, Nick Verhaeghe will introduce participants to one of the most well-known methods of plant-based development.
You will take your own photographs during a photowalk in the neighborhood, create your own coffee-based developer, and use it to process your film rolls. The session will also include a discussion about the possibilities and limitations of working with organic materials in photography..

Public

Maximum 12 participants — photography students and amateur photographers. The workshop will be conducted in English.

Participation fee

Price 100 €
Student rate 50 €

Materials required for participants

  • Your film camera

  • You can bring your own rolls, but they need to be black and white film, ISO 100–400. No color or slide (dia) film, since those require different development times.

  • Nick Verhaeghe continuously explores the intersections between memory, time, and the organic world. His photographic development practice is defined by the use of natural and medicinal materials. By doing so, he relinquishes full control over the final image, allowing natural processes to intervene and shape the outcome. The materials he uses are not mere tools but active participants in the creation of each piece.

Ballgame
2 and a half days workshop - led in English

Starting from an introduction to his own practice, Federico Clavarino proposes to turn this workshop into a true laboratory, where shifting our initial relationship to reality will open up possibilities for new encounters, unexpected associations, and, consequently, the creation of new images. Ideas, objects, and subjects collected at the Jeu de Balle market will serve as the basis for free, responsive, and inventive experiments. The workshop will conclude with a public presentation at the end of the Pop Up, on Sunday, December 14..

Public

Maximum 12 participants — photography students and amateur photographers. The workshop will be conducted in English.

Materials required for participants

  • You’ll be later informed regarding the materials.

  • Federico Clavarino’s work lies between fiction and documentary, combining visual and narrative fragments to question memory, history, and structures of power. His photography, both conceptual and poetic, constructs open-ended narratives in which the image becomes an autonomous language. Through this approach, he explores how images shape our perception of reality and time.
